An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer and serves as the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it sends requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, hosting servers also have an Operating System that functions as a host for any software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you will be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We provide as many as 3 different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the safest and the most reliable OSs available and we provide all three instead of just one because we realize that you may want to set up some software with specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it'll run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there're different software programs you can install on the server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you wish to use one and because of this we offer several Control Panels too. In case you decide that you need some other OS, our tech support can quickly wipe the current one and install the one that you'd like. In addition, we offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a broader choice regarding the system environment on the server as different apps may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and safe hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also update the OS regularly to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
