A password-protected directory or area is a folder which can be accessed only when a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized people may check out its content. This feature could be used for the primary folder of a specific Internet site or just for a certain subfolder based upon your requirements. For instance, when you are building a new Internet site and you do not want people to see it before it is 100% ready, you need to prohibit the access to it completely, and if you want only some people to be able to access particular files, you can password-protect only a particular folder, while the rest of the website can be seen by anyone. Anyway, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear when the login details the visitor enters aren't correct. Even a direct link to a file will not work provided any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Website Hosting

Creating a password-protected area will take no more than a few mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites within a cloud website hosting account with us. You won't have to do anything difficult - you will have to select a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it has to be protected, and then to type in the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. If a number of individuals need their own login details, there won't be a problem to create several different usernames with access to the exact same folder. All protected folders will appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this function is active. If you want to disable the security function for any folder, you can disable it from the very same section of the CP where you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to secure any content you have uploaded using our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it is part of, so you shall not need to type in any code at any time. You'll simply have to pick one of the domains/subdomains which you have in the website hosting account and to choose which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can type in the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be good to go. The protection shall be enabled at once, so anyone who tries to access the freshly secured folder shall have to enter the accurate login info. In case several people should be able to access exactly the same content, you could set up a separate username for each one.
