Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange information between a hosting server and a client. Because the data exchanged by the two sides is encoded, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of handling a hosting account. The commands which could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the options are limited as you shall not have root access to the hosting server, so you could just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. They are all actions that are executed inside the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the ability to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting

SSH access is featured with all cloud website hosting that we provide. With some of them, it is featured by default, while with others it is an additional upgrade that you can include with just a few mouse clicks in your hosting Control Panel. You could get SSH access through the section dedicated to it where you will also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may choose the password that you will use and, if necessary, you shall be able to change it with a few clicks from the same place. All the commands that can be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article along with relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is allowed for your account, you'll also be able to upload files through your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you are able to add it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. In any case, you are able to activate and de-activate the function with one click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same location, you will see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box where you can easily input the password that you'd like to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you may also change it as often as you need. The full list of the commands which can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a couple of instances. An extra function after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this sort of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

All our VPS server plans come with SSH access as standard, so you shall not have to include any upgrades or enable anything - the second the server is set up and you receive its login details, you'll be able to connect via its primary IP address and the login credentials which you've chosen through the signup process. As the VPS accounts come with full root-level access, there are no restrictions regarding the commands that you may run. Your server will be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage pretty much everything via a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. This way, you can work with your files, databases and any apps that you install in a fast and protected way.
